While I was at this convention, I was able to attend workshop sessions, one-on-one critiques, and a photography competition.

National Student Media Contest
I submitted three images into the sports action photography category. I won a "superior" which translates to first place. Over 300 students submitted photos in the contest overall.
Racing to the end of the season: Running through the trees at the Haskell Invitational cross country meet, senior Jake Hedges runs the 5-mile on Oct. 7. Hedges has been a part of the Free State cross country team for three years, and is now in his senior season. “It’s been such a big part of my high school socially, and physically, so it’s definitely crazy that it’s finally coming to an end,” Hedges said.
Pushing through: With his eyes on the ball, Free State sophomore Caleb Huggins attempts to fight past defenders of Gardner Edgerton at the JV soccer game on Oct 3. Free State ended up winning 2-0, and now has a season record of 5-3-2.
Almost to a Touchdown: Running past Free State defenders, senior Gabe Hoskins from Shawnee Mission Northwest is pulled down by Free State junior Bralin Preston at the 40-yard line. Free State football defeated the Cougars 28-6.
The night before the awards ceremony, we had an on-site critique session that was required for every photographer to attend. In a room full of over 300 students, the contest's lead judge, along with teams of experienced journalism advisers and professional journalists decided to pull up my images and critique them in front of everyone. During this, I was given the chance to speak about my images and the processes behind them. The lead judge had everyone put their hands up in a cropped position to display how my soccer image should've been cropped more. This session was, and still remains one of my most treasured memories.
